Meet the Team: Steve Cole, Creative and Digital & UX Consultant

< Back to blog

We would like to introduce you to our new Meet the Team series. In light of these challenging times, our recruitment consultants are here to share their advice to help active candidates during this time. As part of this series, you’ll also find out more about our consultants, the sectors they work in and their individual working from home tips.

As part of our series, we spoke to Steve Cole, our Creative and Digital & UX Recruitment Consultant.

Tell us a bit about yourself, what do you do at Devonshire?

I recruit for temporary and permanent Creative, Digital and Print Design and UX/UI specialists.

Explain a bit more about your desk/sector and the type of roles you recruit for?

I have built strong relationships with a large network of candidates and clients within the Creative, Digital & UX and Print Design sectors. I enjoy helping candidates curate their portfolios and advising how they can best market themselves to specific roles. I have a vast knowledge of the creative industry and can help clients with everything from creating job specifications right through to studio set ups.

What type of clients do you recruit for?

I recruit for large corporate in-house design teams, government and digital agencies.

In your opinion, what makes a candidate in your sector stand out from the crowd?

Obviously good work experience and a strong portfolio. Also, a candidate that markets themselves well and has an up-to-date LinkedIn profile that states relevant work experience and skills.

What advice would you give to people wanting to get into your sector/progress in similar roles that you recruit for?

I would say that you need to have relevant work experience within the sector, so if you are a junior you need to get that work experience to develop a strong portfolio.

What advice would you give to your active candidates looking for temp and perm work in the current climate with COVID-19?

Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date and ‘open to opportunities’. Also, spend time updating your CV with relevant experience and your portfolio. Remember to put together a portfolio for a specific role you are applying for rather than a generic one. During this time you should be as active as possible in your job search via LinkedIn and job boards so you can keep track of all the new opportunities in your sector.

Finally, what’s your top tip for working from home?

Try and have a dedicated space for working if you can, and get a routine going.
